The weather was cold that day. Jongup was walking up towards the local coffee shop that he would go to on days like today. He shivered slightly and turned the corner, smelling the sweet aroma of coffee in this bitter morning. He entered the warm coffee shop/bookstore and got in line. It took about ten minutes for the line to move until it got to him.
"Hey, Jongup. Usual?" Youngjae, the barista, asked him.
"Yes please," Jongup answered, taking out his usual change and handing it to him.
"Alright, and your order will be right up," Youngjae told him.
Jongup only nodded and waited with the other people waiting for their coffee. About a few minutes later, Youngjae called out Jongup's name and handed his steaming hot coffee to him. He always ordered a cinnamon dolce latte, with an extra shot of cinnamon. He took a sip of his coffee, until someone accidentally bumped into him, causing him to dump his entire coffee down the front of his shirt and pants. Just great. Can he go one day without some sort of accident?
"Shit. I am so sorry," the person apologized.
"No, it's okay. It was just an accident," Jongup said, getting a couple of napkins and trying to wipe some of the hot liquid off his clothes.
"Are you sure? I can always buy you another coffee," the man said.
"Like I said, it's okay. You don't have to do that," he told him, trying to get away from this. People were starting to stare.
"Please? At least let me buy you another coffee," the man offered again.
Jongup bit back a sigh and finally agreed. After attempting to clean himself and standing in line with this stranger, who asked what his coffee order was, he was sitting with him.
"Like I said, you don't have to do this. Buying me a coffee was enough as it is," Jongup told him, taking off his jacket and drinking his cinnamon dolce latte.
"I know, but I just feel terrible is all," the man told him.
"Well, since you feel bad, my name is Jongup," he introduced.
"I'm Yongguk. It's nice to formally meet you," Yongguk introduced as well.
"So do you normally offer people their coffees when you accidentally bumped into them or is that just me?" Jongup asked, taking another sip of his coffee.
"I swear I didn't see you there. My mind was traveling into two different directions," he said.
"How come?" Jongup asked. "Sorry. I don't mean to pry."
"No, it's okay. It's just college and how I have too many essays going on and such. It's boring. You don't want to hear about that," he explained.
Jongup only bit his lip and thought about this. Normally, he would just take the coffee and see if the bookstore finally delivered the book he has been waiting for finally arrived. For some reason, he was interested.
"But I want to hear it. I get that you don't want to talk about it, but I would like to listen," Jongup said, setting his coffee down and listened to whatever Yongguk needed to bitch about.
And when Yongguk vented, it was almost like a fountain; it kept going and going and no matter how many times it kept repeating itself, it's still a wonderful scene in front of them.
"-and then my professor thought assigning only me an essay about the difference between certain musical instruments would help me and… I'm sorry. Am I boring you?" Yongguk asked.
Jongup only shook his head. "No, I think it's interesting. Your music professor is a bitch. He sounds so pretentious."
"I said the exact same thing to one of my friends, but he just said that I was jealous of them or something. I swear, he loves to hear himself talk. I'm sorry, but I didn't get to hear anything about you," Yongguk said.
"Tomorrow. Buy me another coffee and maybe we'll get the conversation rolling," Jongup said. "Right now, I need to head on out. I have classes soon and I need to head back to my apartment real quick," Jongup told him, putting on his sticky jacket on.
"I'll see you tomorrow, then," Yongguk said, smiling softly at him.
Jongup only smiled and walked out of the coffee shop. He buried his face into his scarf and hid his face from the bitter wind. Well, at least the trip wasn't a total waste.
